Antoine DI MAURO (1900-1976)
Antoine Di Mauro, brother of Joseph Di Mauro senior (1893-1966),
And father of Joseph Di Mauro junior (1932-2001),
Made mandolins and guitars in Catania, Italy.
He arrives in Paris in 1934 and works at his established in the bottom of a furniture store rue Fontarabie in the 20th. In 1936 Antoine opened his first workshop impasse Rançon in the 20th century at the back of a courtyard. His wife and three sons: François the eldest, Nicolas the younger and Joseph then Benjamin, joined him in Paris.
In 1942, the workshop expanded to 50 rue de la Reunion in Paris 20ème and was named "LUTHERIE MODERNE". Then in 1950, the workshop expanded again to 47 rue de la Reunion. In 1949 Joseph joined his father and two brothers in the family workshop.
The Di Mauro workshop is in full expansion, manufacturing is in full swing. The Di Mauro guitars are very successful, notably his models of Selmer-Maccaferri jazz guitars such as the Boogie-Woogie, the Saint Louis Blues and notably the special Chorus guitar that Antoine Di Mauro has created, recognizable with his drawing of " Original S shape.
